Pharmacy tech's have helped licensed pharmacists provide medication and other pharmacy products to patients. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, compounds and dispenses medical prescriptions. A pharmacy technician may be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. A pharmacy technician receives and stores incoming supplies, verifies stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records. This type of career requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and at least 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. Typically reports to a manager or supervisor. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Florida Pharmacy technicians work closely with pharmacy aides who handle more routine pharmacy tasks, such as answering pharmacy telephones, and general pharmacy and medical office administration. According the UD department of Labor, job prospects for pharmacy technicians is expected to be excellent for those with formal training and certification.
